Propose a Breakout Session

The 2024 ReImagine Conference will occur in person on October 11, 2024, at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The keynote speaker will be Gaelin Elmore, a dynamic and nationally sought-after speaker, trainer, and thought leader. He works with organizations and people to become belonging-informed to help children overcome trauma and unleash their potential. Gaelin’s passion and energy for his work stems from his heart for justice and lived experience. His own belonging journey has led Gaelin to the National Football League and now stages, board rooms, and organizations all across the country, aiming to inspire, encourage, and equip others to think differently about their work and its long-term impact on others. Gaelin now lives in Eden Prairie, MN, where he gets to experience the purest form of belonging as a husband to his wife, Micaela, and dad to their two daughters, Laniah and Tatum.

The goals of the conference include:

  1. Making the science of toxic stress, trauma, and resilience accessible to the wider community
  2. Helping attendees recognize and take steps to address their own experiences of trauma and toxic stress
  3. Helping attendees provide effective support to family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors who have experienced trauma or toxic stress
  4. Providing opportunities to enhance self-care and resilience skills
  5. Catalyzing collaborative efforts to build the trauma-responsiveness of organizations and communities

The theme of the 2024 conference is “Together, We Flourish.” Our responsibility transcends self-interest. We have a responsibility to help our communities flourish.  It’s about lifting one another, healing together, and nurturing resilient communities where everyone can access the resources and support they need to realize their full potential. The Reimagine Conference is a catalyst, creating a ripple effect that transforms our neighborhoods.

The conference’s audience includes professionals in mental health, healthcare, social and human services, education, business, human resources, and community building/development. We invite potential speakers with expertise in toxic stress, trauma, and/or resilience to share their knowledge with attendees.

We are seeking engaging and interactive workshop proposals that will provide our attendees with skills, tools, and strategies to recognize, care for, and support survivors of trauma and toxic stress. We welcome proposals addressing any topic pertinent to the conference audiences, theme, and goals. We are particularly interested in sessions addressing trauma-responsive care and the aging population; theories and practices for building community and belonging; developing trauma-responsive schools and organizations, the intersection of trauma with other social justice issues; self-care practices, as well as introductory level presentations about ACEs, trauma, and toxic stress.

Sessions should be non-promotional, 60 minutes long, and can take a variety of formats, such as lecture, hands-on, or case study. Continuing education credits will be available for attendees. Session proposals are welcome to have more than one speaker from more than one organization. Speakers will receive a complimentary conference registration and are welcome to participate in all conference sessions and activities.

Proposals should be received by 5 pm Central Time on Friday, July 27, 2024.

Potential speakers will be notified by August 9, 2024 about the acceptance status of their proposals.  Selected speakers will be required to submit additional information necessary for session promotion and for CEU approval.

Session Objectives

Stated in measurable terms, objectives should define what the participant will know or be able to do as a result of having attended the program. Effective learning objectives need to be observable and/or measurable, and using action verbs is a way to achieve this. Verbs such as “identify”, “argue,” or “construct” are more measurable than vague or passive verbs such as “understand” or “be aware of”. Learning objectives should focus on the learner. Speakers are encouraged to focus one objective on Diversity.
A minimum of two objectives are required. Add Additional Objectives (+) as necessary.
