2024 By the Numbers: Strengthening Stability
This year, we delivered critical housing and support to thousands of families:
-We housed 158 families through affordable housing initiatives, with an additional 36 safe homes on the way.
– Distributed $6.5M in rental assistance and $272K in eviction prevention resources to keep families in their homes.
– Helped two families purchase their first homes and supported two more in completing crucial repairs through our Savings Match Program.
– Served 245,088 meals to families facing food insecurity, ensuring no one had to go to bed hungry.
A Year of Award-Winning Impact
Our dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. CoAction received two awards that reflect our commitment to creating a healthier, stronger community:
– The “Food is Medicine” Award for our Produce for Better Health program, which empowers Older Adults to improve their health through fresh, nutritious meals.
– The S.P.A.R.K. Award from Indiana’s Balance of State Continuum of Care, recognizing our innovative efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness.
–The Loving Support Breastfeeding Award for our WIC Program’s exceptional work in promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
Transformative Programs in Action
Diversion Advocacy Program
This Fall, we launched a new approach to combating homelessness: Diversion Advocacy. By helping individuals seeking shelter find immediate housing alternatives and connecting them with critical services, we’re breaking the cycle of homelessness before it begins. This cost-effective program empowers families to stabilize and thrive while significantly reducing future risk.
Produce for Better Health
Through our congregate meal sites and home-delivered meals, Older Adults gained access to fresh fruits and vegetables, helping them manage chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight-related health issues. The results? Improved health and a renewed sense of vitality for our community’s seniors.
Prominence Commons 2: Affordable Housing for All
This year marked the completion of Prominence Commons 2, adding much-needed affordable housing for families in our community. A home is more than four walls—it’s a foundation for security, growth, and belonging. This project stands as a testament to our belief that when our neighbors have a safe place to call home, we all thrive.
Indiana faces some of the highest rates of housing instability in the Midwest, with 1 in 4 families struggling to keep a roof over their heads. As we celebrate our achievements this year, we remain committed to tackling these challenges head-on. Together, we are creating a community where everyone can thrive.
