Home Modifications & Energy Efficiency Improvements

Home Updates that Reduce Energy Use

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides improvements, such as air-sealing and adding insulation to reduce home energy use. Weatherization takes the “whole house” approach, analyzing all building systems— exterior, heating and cooling, electrical, and electric appliances—through the completion of an in-home energy audit.

To be eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program, the applicant’s household must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. It is best to apply for Weatherization Assistance at the same time you apply for Energy Assistance.

Our weatherization program is all about safety. Many older homes receiving Weatherization Assistance may need repairs. Before installing any energy efficiency measures, we check the exterior of the building and major energy systems to ensure there are no health or safety concerns, such as lead-based paint or mold issues.

To apply for Weatherization, check the “WX” box on your Energy Assistance application. (CoAction provides Weatherization services only in Lake County.)
